Good morning, Southside! 🌴
It is going to be brutally hot. The city opened cooling centers this week with the heat index pushing 110, so this weekend's list leans indoors and early morning on purpose. Jacksonville is still more fun than it gets credit for, you just want to be smart about when you're standing in the sun.
Quick favor first: hit reply with your zip code if you haven’t already! It takes you five seconds, it tells me which corners of the Southside to dig into, and it teaches your inbox that we belong in Primary.
Here's what's worth leaving the house for this weekend 👇
🪴 A free plant night in San Marco where everybody goes home with a plant
🚲 A thousand bikes trying to set a record at Jax Beach
🏈 Jags vs Saints on a big screen in Baymeadows
🧹 A Saturday morning clean-up in San Marco Square
Let's get to it.

TOGETHER WITH THE SAN MARCO MERCHANTS ASSOCIATION
The people who keep the Square looking like the Square
The volunteers behind Saturday's clean-up also run the San Marco Market,
Sip-In San Marco, and the Festival of Lights 5K. It is about sixty shops
and restaurants doing it on their own time. It’s worth knowing who they are
next time you are walking Hendricks.

📰 In Case You Missed It
A few Jacksonville things worth knowing, minus the doom-scroll:
🥵 The city is opening cooling centers ahead of this weekend's heat. A heat dome is parked over the First Coast with the index climbing past 110, and the city has places you can go to get out of it. Worth knowing where, or passing along to someone who needs it. (First Coast News)
✨ The Perseid meteor shower peaks tonight. One of the best meteor showers of the year, and the peak runs Wednesday into Thursday. Get away from the streetlights and look up. (First Coast News)
💇 A Southside salon is warning people about a hairstylist scam. Salon PK says roughly 20 people have shown up for appointments with a stylist who does not work there, booked through social media. If you book beauty appointments through DMs, call the shop first. (First Coast News)
💚 Sulzbacher is adding 32 more beds for women downtown. City Council approved just over $413,000 to keep emergency beds available for women experiencing homelessness. Quietly one of the better things that happened here this week. (First Coast News)
